Jack Chen is a lawyer who works for Google in New York.
He has degrees in computer science from Harvard and Berkeley.
He’s climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, run 9 marathons, and completed multiple triathlons, including 2 Ironmans.
Oh yeah…
And he’s also completely blind.
He lost his eyesight at 16, after an operation that went wrong, and has been unable to see ever since.
But that’s not stopped Jack from doing some remarkable things.
It just goes to show what you can achieve when you put your mind to it, despite what obstacles may be in the way.
We all have setbacks that can get in the way of our journeys.
Thankfully, for most of us, those setbacks won’t be nearly as life-altering as Jack’s.
But they’re still setbacks.
And they can still derail us from going after what we truly want…
If we let them do that.
I’m not claiming to know how anyone feels in any particular situation. Far from it.
But I know that most of the time, when I’ve been dealing with something tough in life, exercise has helped me through it.
That’s how powerful it can be.
But the real message here is, whatever we feel are obstacles in our journey to making the podium in a race, qualifying for a national age group comp, or even just getting fitter and healthier -
They don’t HAVE to be obstacles.
Humans can overcome some incredible challenges.
And we can all take a leaf out of Jack’s book.
Just some food for thought.
