Whatever youâre training for, you need a map.
I donât mean a map of the roads or trails though.
I mean a map that takes you from where you are now, to where you want to be.
A lot of triathletes make the mistake of thinking they can get away with winging their training.
And you sort of can.
If youâre just starting out, any kind of training will help you get fitter.
Or if youâre coming back from injury, then simply doing a little of what you fancy can be a good first step to getting back your fitness.
Similarly, if youâre in a bit of a slump and only want to do what you enjoy for a while?
More power to you.
But for anything else, you need a plan.
You canât simply guess your way from point A to point B.
Thatâs like going into a maze without a map.
Granted, that map doesnât 100% guarantee youâre going to make it to the end.
Just like you may get lucky, and find the finish navigating blind.
But if you want the best chances of success, knowing where you want to go AND having guidance to get there is vital.
Thatâs the case whether youâre just starting out, trying to go from the pack to the podium, or shooting for national (or even international) champs,
Iâm not saying you need a coach, by the way.
A plan and a coach are different things.
Obviously, a coach will help.
We see that first-hand, here at Brownlee Fitness.
Athletes come to us whoâve been training hard and consistently for years, and see rapid improvements in the first few weeks, just from coaching.
But more important than a coach, is simply having that plan.
You need to have everything structured correctly.
Train in a periodised way.
And balance volume, recovery and intensity.
I canât necessarily tell you whatâs the best plan for you, right now in this email.
Thereâs a lot of factors that come into play.Â
But what I can do, is say that if you decide you need a plan (or the plan you have right now isnât working)...
Just reach out to us, and one of our expert coaches will be more than happy to guide you in the right direction.
Happy training.
Pete,
Brownlee Fitness
